Professional Development

The Carol Waldrop Education Fund supports employees who wish to receive additional professional development to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. Each year, a minimum of three full-time employees will be rewarded a maximum of $1,000.00 per employee for continuing education through an accredited program, conference or seminar that either offers growth in an area related to their current position or might lead to promotional opportunities.

The Center also offers monthly professional development sessions for managers as well as other staff in the form of our Life Long Learning (L3) program. Topics vary from customer service, leadership development, safety in the workplace, best practices for teaching science to children, etc.

When a position within the Center becomes available our employees are encouraged to apply for jobs that interest them and to advance their growth within our team.


Our Open Door Policy encourages all employees to approach their managers and Senior Staff regarding any matter concerning them or the Center.

Monthly All-Staff Meetings are held to share Center and industry news and encourage discussion between team members.

Talent and Appreciation

Each eligible employee will undergo an annual performance review with their manager and annual bonuses are determined based on the results of these reviews (if bonus pool available). In addition, mutually agreed upon goals are set for the next year.

Each quarter, members of the ASC team vote for an outstanding employee to be named our Peak Performer. Winners are announced at an all-staff meeting and receive prizes, praise and recognition.

All employees may be entered for monthly raffles for various prizes at our All-Staff meetings or for guessing the Secret Employee from our monthly HR Newsletters. Special treats and other raffles for great prizes occur periodically throughout the year.

A monthly newsletter from the People Division is sent to all employees recognizing those with a birthday or anniversary that month, information for any upcoming ASC events, and more!

ASC Observed Holidays

Full-time employees receive the following paid holidays:

New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day (ASC closed), Christmas Day (ASC closed).

Personal Holidays

Full-time employees receive two personal holidays on January 1 (16 hours)


Full-time employees receive 8 hours paid time off for their birthday.

Part-time employees receive 4 hours paid time off for their birthday.


Full-time employees accrue 3.69 hours per pay period, to a maximum of 120 hours.

Jury Duty

Full-time employees are paid full salary while serving on jury duty.


Full-time employees are entitled to up to three paid days off for critical illness or death in immediate family.


More than 80% of employee medical is paid by Arizona Science Center.


100% of employee dental is paid by Arizona Science Center.


100% of employee life insurance is paid by Arizona Science Center. ($15,000 policy)

401K Retirement

Full time employees (21+ years of age): after completion of six months of employment and 1000 hours worked (based on a 40 hours per week), Arizona Science Center contributes 3% of gross earnings per pay period to Vanguard account(s).

Part time employees (21+ years of age): after completion of 1000 hours of work within 12 month period ( ~ one year employment based on 20 hours per week) Arizona Science Center contributes 3% of gross earnings per pay period to Vanguard account(s).


Full family membership to Arizona Science Center and 600+ Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC). This membership also includes discounts to the Lab Café and Awesome Atoms gift shop.

Employee Admission Exchange Program

Admission for full-time and part-time employees and one guest year round to Pueblo Grande Museum Archaeological Park, Arizona Museum of Natural History, Phoenix Zoo, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, Heard Museum, Rosson House Museum, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix Art Museum, Mesa Contemporary Arts at Mesa Arts Center, and Arizona Museum for Youth.


Discounted covered parking provided to full-time and part-time employees.

Trip Reduction Program

In return for submitting light rail and bus receipts to payroll, employees are reimbursed up to $10.00 per month.
